George W. Aiken, 93, a lifelong resident of Kennett Square, died at Linden Hall on June 4.  He was the husband of the late Mary Aiken, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

He was the son of the late Robert and Sadie Aiken.

Mr. Aiken was a graduate of Kennett High School 1932 and attended Fordham University on a full baseball scholarship. He was a relief pitcher in the New York Yankees system before sustaining a career ending injury.

He served in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he joined the DuPont Co. in the Treasury Department, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of the Kennett Old-timers Baseball, the V.F.W., and the American Legion.

A brother, James, and many nieces and nephews survive him.

In addition to his wife, he was pre-deceased by a sister, Mildred, brothers Robert and Howard, Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday, June 7, at St. Patrick Church, Kennett Square with interment immediately following in St. Patrick Cemetery.
